After spending a few days in Bangkok we traveled to Koh Samet, a beautiful island a few miles of the coast.  It was quite an experience getting there…a three-hour bus ride…

Today's highlights

  • Ate two breakfasts
  • Bought sunscreen and it was half full (or half empty). Took it back and looked at all the other sunscreens. They were all half full, too.
  • A guy met us at the exact same place and followed the exact same script as yesterday trying to get us to buy stuff at a market.
  • We were DAZZLED by the beauty of the temple of the Emerald Buddha (that is really jade) and the Grand Palace.
  • Went to lunch at Jim Thompson's house. Ate amazingly delicious Thai food: Pat Thai, eggplant stuffed with shrimp and a topping of pork, garlic shrimp, and pomelo, toasted coconut, and peanut salad. Our best meal here so far.
  • Took a tour of Jim Thompson's house.
  • On the way back to the hotel, bought snacks: sweet waffles for Sam, noodles, a mystery fruit, and pomelo.
Pictures to follow!
